Stop the data center being built in Joliet, Illinois
The Issue
Residents of the Joliet area and neighboring communities like Elwood, New Lenox and Manhattan, I am deeply concerned about the construction of the massive data center in our community. This development will have severe repercussions not only for our families but also for the schools, farmlands and historic sites that define our community.
The data center has been passed and expect to annex farmland near Rowell and Bernhard Roads for the proposed Joliet Technology Center. Developed by Hillwood and PowerHouse, the facility will be the largest in Illinois, rivaling the size of New York's Central Park. The Joliet City Planning Director Jayne Bernhard is part of the Bernhard family who is selling the land for the data center. Jayne sold out to make a profit for her own family at the expense of her community.
This is not okay. People need to have their voices heard, the community needs help stopping this before the construction begins. This will use as much power as it takes to power the entire city of Chicago.
Additionally, the arrival of this data center threatens to introduce significant noise pollution, disrupting the peaceful lives of countless families and disturbing the natural tranquility that our region is known for. Moreover, given the large amounts of water required for cooling such facilities, there is a looming risk of water pollution and depletion, which could have lasting negative effects on our agricultural resources and water reserves.
We call upon all residents, friends of Joliet, and supporters of community preservation to stand with us in opposition to the building of this data center. Together, we can protect our natural resources, value of our homes and ensure a sustainable future for our families and farms.
Please sign this petition to voice your concern and to support the preservation of our community's environment and well being.
