Dear Members of the Glasgow City Council Education Department,

We, the undersigned, are writing to you today as a collective of concerned parents, educators, and citizens, deeply troubled by the recent announcement of proposed cuts to teaching positions across Glasgow's schools. This letter is attached to a petition hosted on Change.org, through which we've gathered significant support from the community, united in opposition to these cuts and the detrimental impact they stand to have on our children's education and future.

The decision to potentially eliminate approximately 450 teaching jobs over the next three years, in an effort to save £27.8 million, is one that we cannot overlook or accept without voicing our profound concern. Such cuts not only threaten the quality of education that our children receive but also risk increasing class sizes, reducing individual attention and support for students, particularly those with additional needs, and escalating exclusions due to diminished in-school support.

The ripple effects of these proposed cuts extend far beyond the classroom. They undermine the efforts and dedication of our educators, jeopardize the well-being of our students, and compromise the foundational principles of equity and quality in education that Glasgow prides itself on.

In light of the Scottish Government's commitment to protect and increase teacher numbers, this move seems counterproductive and misaligned with the broader objectives of enhancing educational outcomes and supporting the professional development of teachers.

We understand the financial pressures and challenges facing the council. However, we firmly believe that investing in education and our teachers is investing in the future of Glasgow. We urge you to reconsider these proposed cuts and to explore alternative solutions that do not compromise the quality of education or the welfare of our children and teachers.

Education is the cornerstone upon which the future of our community rests. It is our shared responsibility to ensure that every child in Glasgow has access to the highest quality education, delivered by dedicated and supported teaching professionals. We ask you, as our elected representatives and stewards of our city's education system, to prioritize the needs and futures of Glasgow's children above fiscal constraints.

Let us work together to find a path forward that upholds the values of our community, respects the importance of education, and safeguards the interests of our most valuable assets—our children and their educators.

We are ready to engage in constructive dialogue and to explore all possible avenues to avert these cuts. Our hope is that this letter, supported by the voices of countless individuals who have signed the accompanying petition, will serve as a catalyst for reconsideration and positive action.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. We look forward to your response and to the opportunity to collaborate on ensuring a bright and prosperous future for all of Glasgow's children.

Sincerely,
