The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has been engaging in practices that harm our state's cherished deer population, rather than protecting it. It has come to our attention that MDC is illegally baiting deer, shooting them out of season, and deploying questionable tactics such as spotlighting and using thermal scopes at night to slaughter large numbers of deer. These actions are not only unethical but also detrimental to the health and balance of our deer populations.

MDC's approach is exacerbating the problem instead of addressing it. Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is undoubtedly a serious issue, but the current methods being employed are reckless and counterproductive. Instead of culling, the state should be focusing on scientific and ethical disease management strategies that safeguard the future of our wildlife.

Adding to the frustration, many of us have been locked out of conservation lands we rightfully pay taxes for, witnessing firsthand the neglect of these areas. The MDC has repeatedly failed to perform necessary maintenance on these lands, allowing them to fall into disrepair. This lack of stewardship undermines the very mission of conservation and prevents Missouri residents from enjoying their natural heritage.

Despite their mandate to protect our wildlife and their habitats, MDC's actions and lack of transparency have eroded public trust. We demand accountability and a reassessment of the practices used in addressing CWD in Missouri. We urge the authorities to repeal the dedicated Missouri conservation tax that has been misused and redirect efforts towards true conservation measures.

Missouri's rich biodiversity and its natural lands belong to all Missourians, not just a regulatory body detached from ethical conservation principles. It is time for a change that reflects the values and voices of the people who cherish this state’s wildlife and natural beauty.
