The Issue

Officers shot the dogs after being called to a report of a woman being attacked by a dog. In a heartbreaking incident that has left communities devastated, two innocent dogs, tightly leashed and under the watchful eyes of their owners, fell victim to an unjustifiable act of violence. The alarming incident serves as a stark reminderof the urgent need to address police brutality and ensure accountability within law enforcement agencies. This article delves into the details of the incident, captures the public outcry, and explores the imperative for change in our society's treatment of both human and animal lives.

The incident occurred in wer Hamlets, London, according to the initial police statement, which stated that the aggressive behavior of the two leashed dogs "was of considerate concern and posed a significant threat to them." This occurrence occurred in the late afternoon of Sunday, May 7, 2023.

According to an actual video that has been circulating around the social media, the two dogs were tightly leashed and under the owner's control. The numerous armed individuals who were approaching and encircling the dogs made them feel threatened, which is why the dogs were barking, as is typical of dogs in such situations. The police described the situation as "dangerously out of control," but the video evidence was showing the opposite.

It is not acceptable for the police to approach the owner and use a taser on him when all he was doing was protecting his dogs, as shown in the video, where one of the dogs was already lying on the floor and the other was secured in a catch pole, and then choose to release that dog and let it run back to the owner who was being tasered, only to be shot as it ran back to its owner and for who had witnessed that cruelty was left screaming.

In a statement, a Met spokesperson said: "Officers attended the location where the aggressive behaviour of two dogs was of considerable concern and posed a significant threat to them.

   ADDITIONAL STATEMENT

"A man was arrested in connection with the incident for having a dog dangerously out of control and assault offences. He has been taken into police custody."

The statement added a Taser was discharged during the incident and both dogs "were destroyed by police at the scene" but no-one was taken to hospital.

"This is never an easy decision for any officer to take, but police have a duty to act where necessary before any further injury is caused," the statement continued.

  • "I don't think the dogs looked aggressive, they were both wiggling their tails," Jen said. (One of the witnesses)
  • Dogs 'weren't aggressive'
  • The police said "both the dogs were destroyed" at the scene.
  • The woman and dog were totally fine and there was also a video where she was "being attacked"

I request your serious consideration and support in stopping the unjustified killings upon the animals. Let's work together to prevent such incidents and promote animal welfare.
