Stop the Cruel Veterinary System – Create an NHS for Animals

The Issue

Every day in the UK, animals are dying—not because they can’t be saved, but because their owners simply can’t afford the treatment.

Private veterinary care has become a luxury, and the government offers no alternative.

My beloved cat died.

I was quoted between £1,500 and £3,000 for surgery—this was after I had already paid nearly £800 for an ultrasound, blood tests, and antibiotics.

I didn’t have any more money. No one helped. My cat was sentenced to death, even though she could have been saved.

This isn’t just my story. This is the painful reality for thousands of pet owners across the UK.

We demand urgent reform:

-Create a public emergency veterinary fund – an Animal NHS,
-Provide government funding to charities like PDSA and RSPCA that save animal lives every day,
-Introduce price regulation for essential life-saving veterinary procedures,
-Enforce price transparency and require vets to offer lower-cost options when available.

What we need is a humane and fair approach to the ones who love us unconditionally—our animals.

Animals are family.

They should not have to die just because their owner can’t afford to save the life of their beloved pet
