Stop the Cruel Breeding of XL Bully Cats in the UK
The Issue
As a lifelong cat owner, it deeply troubles me to see the rise in the breeding of XL bully cats in the UK. These domesticated felines are being bred to unnaturally large sizes, resulting in numerous health issues. Above all, it is a cruel distortion of their natural features. Cats, as any cat lover and owner knows, need their whiskers and long legs to lead comfortable lives.
The breeding of such cats leads to severe health defects which significantly decrease their quality of life. Cats bred to this size suffer from poor bone health, obesity, and heart problems due to their excess weight. In fact, according to the PDSA, obesity can decrease a cat's lifespan by up to 2 years (PDSA Report, 2019). It's further estimated that 1 in 3 cats in the UK suffer from obesity-related issues due to such negligent and inhumane practices (Cat Care, 2020).
Nature did not intend for these beautiful creatures to live in such discomfort. We must respect the internal standards of each breed for ethical breeding, rather than altering them for our fascination or entertainment. Respect for animal rights and nature's intention should always supersede any human desire for novelty.
Let's take a stand to halt this practice which undermines the dignity and wellbeing of cats. Let's stop the cruel breeding of XL bully cats in the UK, because every cat deserves to lead a happy and healthy life. Please, sign this petition to bring this issue to the attention of the relevant authorities.
