Picture this scenario: a wild hog is cornered by a ferocious dog. The dog nips at the hog, but it can't defend itself because its mouth is taped shut and its tusks are filed down. A crowd of people cheers the dog on. The dog lunges again, but the hog doesn't move -- it is petrified with fear. Does this sound like sport to you? Imagine if you were the hog. Would it seem fun then?

There is a loophole in Missouri law that allows for this horrific “sport,” called hog dogging or hog baying. They have decided that it is not an animal fight, but rather training for a hunting dog, even though many of these dogs never go on a single hunt.  

We want the state of Missouri to close the loophole and make hog baying illegal, because animal cruelty and suffering for human entertainment is never okay.

The Humane Society of the US (HSUS) says hog baying can be just as violent as dog fighting, which is illegal in the state of MO. And injuries to both animals do occur often. But while the dog is fitted with a kevlar vest, the hog is completely vulnerable.  Quite simply, this is animal abuse.

Hog baying has already been made illegal in both Texas and Florida, Missouri should take the hint too. Join me and groups like the Humane Society of the US and Missourians 4 the Protection of Animals and stand against hog baying in the state of Missouri. Tell them to close the loophole and end this senseless cruelty.
