North Fair Oaks, CA is facing a potential transformation that deeply concerns residents: San Mateo County’s plan to purchase and convert a property at 3335 Spring St, Redwood City, CA into a halfway house. Our community, characterized by peace and harmony, was blindsided by this proposal, with no prior notice or opportunity for discussion, leaving us unheard and unprepared.

The essence of North Fair Oaks lies in its residential tranquility, where families, children, and schools form the heart of the neighborhood. The proposal to transform a single-family home into a high-impact group facility threatens to disrupt this delicate balance. Residents fear for the neighborhood's safety and character, as increased foot traffic, lack of parking and potential disturbances might follow such a conversion.

While public service facilities have their importance, it's crucial that they are situated in areas where they can operate without adversely affecting local residents. High-impact developments should be strategically placed in zones designed for mixed-use, not in peaceful residential areas.

The lack of transparency and communication from the authorities is unacceptable. Community members deserve to have a say in decisions that affect their immediate environment and quality of life. The current process disregards the voices of the people who make up the fabric of North Fair Oaks.

We urge the County to reconsider this proposal and engage in a meaningful dialogue with the residents of North Fair Oaks. Together, let's explore alternatives that respect the community's integrity and ensure harmonious coexistence.

We want to urge the board of SMC supervisors to: 

• Pause any purchase or approval until the community has been fully consulted.

• explore alternative sites that would not harm residential neighborhoods and pose threats to Taft elementary school. 
  
  
• Vote No on this project.
