The Issue

The proposed convenience store at the intersection of Duncan Bridge Road and Highway 115 East poses a significant threat to the harmony and quality of life in Leaf, GA. As a long-standing resident, I am deeply concerned about the myriad negative impacts this development will have on our community. Despite having two convenience stores within a mile, another one is being planned right across from the Chattahoochee Church at the traffic light intersection. This is not only unnecessary but potentially hazardous.

Located directly across from our community church, the construction of this store will disrupt the small community that this area is known for. Our community is characterized by the locals who live in houses all around Leaf, but the addition of a convenience store will compromise privacy, increase noise, and generate unwanted trash. The small town environment that our residents have enjoyed for decades would be tarnished.

Traffic is another pressing concern. The proposed entries, both on Duncan Bridge Road leading to Irvin Sawmill dirt road and off Hwy 115 East, are fraught with potential dangers. Increased traffic on these routes, particularly with one being a dirt road, would add significant safety risks. The intersection at Hwy 115 East is already a busy, dangerous intersection and adding convenience store traffic would only exacerbate this problem, possibly leading to more accidents. The thought of putting convenience store entrances and exits amongst residential traffic on a dirt road is preposterous.

Moreover, the environmental impact cannot be ignored. The light pollution, increased runoff, and potential for increased accidents at a significant red light junction will not go unnoticed.

We must take a stand to preserve the community we love. This development directly contradicts the needs and welfare of Leaf’s residents. We should focus on sustainable practices and developments that enhance, rather than detract from, our community’s quality of life.

Join me in urging local decision-makers to prioritize our community's safety and heritage over unnecessary commercial development. Please sign this petition to help halt the construction of the convenience store and protect Leaf's integrity.
