Stop the Consumption of Dogs and Cats in South Korea

Stop the Consumption of Dogs and Cats in South Korea
The Issue
I have always held a deep appreciation for South Korean tradition, its music, its rich culture, and the warmth of its people. However, there is one aspect that deeply distresses me - the consumption of dogs and cats. These animals are often regarded as family members around the world, providing companionship and unconditional love. In South Korea alone, it's estimated that around 1 million dogs are consumed annually (Humane Society International). This practice not only raises serious animal welfare issues but also poses public health risks due to unsanitary conditions in which these animals are often kept. These animals deserve the same kind of love and respect that other humans and animals get.
While it's important to respect cultural differences, we must also recognize when certain practices cause unnecessary harm or suffering. The majority of Koreans today do not consume dog meat regularly with surveys showing that 70% would support a ban (Korea Animal Rights Advocates). This shows a significant shift in societal attitudes towards this issue.
We urge the South Korean government to enact legislation of banning this practice once and for all. By doing so, they would be joining alongside numerous other Asian countries who have already made such changes including Taiwan and Singapore.
Let us stand together for compassion towards all animals and humans. Please sign this petition to show your support for ending the consumption of dogs and cats and any other animal that humans may keep as pets in South Korea and any other countries that support this practice.
