The Issue

We, the people who actually live here in Waterloo, are tired of decisions being made that put corporations before the community. This data center is being sold to us like it’s progress, but a lot of us don’t see it that way. We see a project that could use massive amounts of water and electricity while regular people are already worried about rising bills and the future of this city. Why should Waterloo residents have to deal with higher water costs, more strain on our infrastructure, noise, pollution, and environmental damage so a giant company can build here? These facilities are known for using huge amounts of resources just to keep running. That affects all of us. And for what? A handful of jobs after construction is over? More industrial land taken over? More pressure on a city that already has enough problems that need attention? A lot of us want a different future for Waterloo. One that invests in neighborhoods, families, parks, small businesses, clean spaces, and things that actually improve daily life for the people already here. Not more giant buildings that consume resources and leave residents dealing with the consequences later. This project does not feel sustainable, community-focused, or transparent. Residents deserve honest answers about: water usage, environmental impact, noise and pollution, energy consumption, and whether our utility bills could increase because of projects like this. We deserve to have a real voice before decisions like this permanently change our city. This is not the future many of us want for Waterloo. We are asking city leaders to slow this process down, listen to residents, and put the people of Waterloo before corporate interests.
