The building of a new road such as the Norwich Western Link will inevitably cause damage to the ecology within the land over which it will pass.
To begin with it will present a substantial barrier impeding and disrupting animal habitat. This will cause what is known as Ecosystem Decay with the resulting features:
Decline of native populations of animals
Decrease in genetic diversity
Decrease of the interior: edge ratio
Isolation of an area of viable habitat
Reduction in viable habitats and often extreme separation
This similar to the ecological damage currently happening in the Amazon Rain Forest due to fire. This is clearly occurring on a much larger scale but it is still nonetheless a natural phenomenon that can occur when a new and unnecessary road is built straight through the Countryside.
What can you do to prevent this?
Write to your MP and local Councillor as well to Norfolk County Council and register your concern.
