Myth Buster 1 - New roads do not reduce congestion and journey time

I can see from comments made that some people believe that the NWL will relieve congestion and improve journey time.

I can see how this might on the surface make sense but the reality is that this is myth.

Official analysis of existing schemes has shown that new roads  don't reduce traffic. Instead, they encourage more people to drive and often just move the problem a few miles away.

A series of detailed studies, carried out by the Highways Agency to see the effect of new roads after they have opened, found that there are many reasons why they fail.

So with the NWL there is a need to pause and to challenge the claims NCC make. Don’t accept everything at face value.
