Stop the construction of the proposed Norwich Western Link Road

Stop the construction of the proposed Norwich Western Link Road
Why this petition matters

Introduction
This Petition is presented and supported by a collective of environmental organisations including Norfolk Wildlife Trust, CPRE, Friends of the Earth, the Woodland Trust, Norfolk Rivers Trust, Stop the Wensum Link Campaign Group and Norfolk and Norwich Naturalists’ Society, all of whom oppose the development on the grounds of the unacceptable impact it will have on wildlife and the wider natural landscape.
Background
Norfolk County Council is looking to construct a three mile dual carriageway (Norwich Western Link ) through undisturbed and highly protected Norfolk countryside.
The road, if built, would cause irreparable damage to unique ecosystems, including the River Wensum valley and a recently discovered super colony of very rare barbastelle bats.
The “green wedge” of the Wensum valley is the only remaining area of green space that is not divided by a major road and allows access to largely undisturbed, high-quality green space for residents in Norwich and the surrounding area.
That access to green space provides important mental and physical health benefits and these would be damaged by the construction of a four-lane flyover that would sever the continuity of this unique natural space.
Furthermore, there is evidence that humans’ encroachment onto natural habitats, placing pressure on ecosystems, brings with it a risk to public health.
It must be STOPPED. Please show your support by signing this petition.
