The Issue

I am deeply concerned about the proposal to construct a 100-foot wireless telecommunications tower at 1321 SW Clay St. in Dallas, Oregon. This proposed site is alarming due to its proximity—only 240 feet—from Oakdale Heights Elementary School and merely 312 feet from the nearest residence. The recommended distance for health safety of a tower is a minimum of 1000-1500feet.

The cell tower is a monopole reaching an estimated elevation height of 550-600 feet. The School as well as many homes in the surrounding area, are all at this same height which would put them in direct line with the top of the tower where the highest RF Radiation emits from.

I am a parent and a resident of this community, and the health and safety of our children are of utmost importance to me. The potential radiation emissions from this cell tower pose significant concerns for the health and wellbeing of the children attending Oakdale Heights, as well as all the surrounding homes. Numerous studies have shown the  risks associated with prolonged exposure to electromagnetic fields, especially for children. Furthermore, the presence of such a tower can lead to various unwanted consequences: it will lead to decreased property values, and increase the fire and hazardous waste risk.

While the property owner is considering this proposal due to the financial incentives, it's imperative to pause and explore more suitable, less intrusive locations for this development. Surrounding hills or mountains could serve as alternative sites for the tower, effectively minimizing its harmful impact while still maintaining service objectives.

Local authorities and the property owner must reconsider this decision, taking into account the environmental, health, and economic impacts on our School children and neighborhood. We urge them to prioritize the community's interests over short-term financial gains.
