Stop the construction of the macaque facility in Bainbridge, Georgia

The Issue

As someone who has dedicated years to studying and protecting macaques, I cannot stand by and watch as these intelligent, social creatures are subjected to a life of confinement and experimentation. Macaques are beautiful, intelligent creatures that live in large social groups in the wild. I have been studying and watching them for many years, and I volunteer at a facility in Wisconsin specifically for macaques that have 'retired' from experimentation—a kind way of saying they became too old to endure further testing without death occurring.

Currently, in Bainbridge, Georgia, a company called 'Safer Human Medicine' is planning to build a massive breeding facility that will house 30,000 macaques. Their sole purpose is to breed and supply these primates to laboratories for experimentation. The citizens of Bainbridge are already fighting in court to stop the construction of this facility, but Safer Human Medicine has managed to secure a holding facility imprisoning hundreds of primates as a precursor to their larger plans.

The construction and operation of this facility will have devastating consequences, not only for the macaques but also for the local community and beyond. Macaques deserve to live in their natural habitats, not in restricted cages where they will be subjected to inhumane testing. Studies have shown that primates experience complex emotions and stress in captivity, leading to both psychological and physical harm.

Furthermore, the existence of such facilities sets a dangerous precedent, ignoring ethical considerations for animal welfare. It also diverts resources away from the development of more humane and effective alternatives for medical and scientific research.

It is imperative that citizens, animal welfare organizations, and policymakers join forces to halt the construction of this breeding facility. We must advocate for the protection of macaques and the promotion of ethical scientific practices. By signing this petition, you are standing against cruelty and advocating for a future where science and compassion go hand in hand.

Help us stop this injustice and protect the macaques' right to a natural, fulfilling life. Sign the petition today and be part of a humane future.
