The Issue

As a resident of San Diego County, and property owner in Ocotillo Wells, I've witnessed firsthand the tranquility and beauty of our untouched landscapes, the thriving wildlife habitats, and the community spirit that binds us all. Yet, all of this is under threat from the proposed Golden Powerlink project. This 150 mile transmission line will cut across our scenic routes, through pristine natural reserves, State Parks and through communities many of us call home.  Residents of Anza Borrego, Fallbrook, Palomar Mountain, Warner Springs, Pauma Valley and Temecula and others have voiced their concerns.

The Golden Powerlink promises to be an eyesore and brings with it a myriad of environmental and social concerns. The potential damage to local ecosystems is alarming. Many endangered species inhabit these areas, and construction and service roads could lead to their severe disruption or even extinction. Moreover, the electromagnetic fields emitted by such power lines pose unidentified health risks to the communities living nearby.  The fire risks are well documented with power lines through these areas.

This project will consist on 500kv lines and 200 foot towers.  The tower bases will require 200 feet.      There is no public corridor for this.  That means they will be seeking Eminent Domain and seize private properties to create an "easement".

We call upon the CPUC and local government officials, stakeholders, and the energy companies involved to reconsider this outdated mode of energy distribution. It's crucial they invest in technology that ensures the safety and preservation of our landscapes while still meeting our community's energy needs.

This project, if allowed to proceed, undermines the charm and appeal that San Diego County boasts, potentially deterring tourism and impacting local businesses that rely on our natural attractions.

I urge you to think about the long-term consequences of this development. Our land, our health, and our community’s future should not be compromised. Join me in taking a stand to protect San Diego County's natural environment and its people by signing this petition today. Together, we can advocate for a future that benefits everyone without sacrificing our invaluable resources and private property.
