Thanks to our many Riverwalk residents who have signed this online petition as well as the in-person petition. Between wet signatures and the change.org petition, we have close to 300 Riverwalk resident signatures against construction of more pickleball courts on the green space. The next step is the Pickleball Survey now available on our Riverwalk website where owners may log in to view and complete the short survey. After logging in, click on the HOA tab and select Surveys & Questionnaires in the drop-down menu. You will then see the pickleball survey. It is just a few questions which the Board will use to determine if residents want to keep the current four pickleball courts or want to spend our money on construction of six new pickleball courts in the prime area of the green space at the Town Hall. More money would then be spent to convert the four pickleball courts back to tennis courts. Riverwalk residents, please complete this survey so your voice may be heard.
The pickleball presentation last night allowed for many of us to have our 3 minutes each to ask questions or to provide a view different from some pickleball or tennis player's view.
Some points I got from the presentation include:
- did not lay out the costs for at least 3 different options. It concentrates only on one area which is used by a lot of people that do not play intensive sports but who do use that particular part of the green space for their play.
- moving in a rush to spend the collected CCF funds and more to start this project which many residents oppose - could slow down, save more money, use it on a more desirable location in RW if residents believe this is a wise expenditure.
- everyone on the pickleball committee played pickleball, tennis, or were invested in the sport and the presentation offered a bias view because of that.
- discounted green space and nature as an amenity.
- presented pickleball courts as a beautiful view over nature.
- tried to present that the courts and stands would not take up a lot of space, however many of us saw the earlier taped off area which was huge and the prime piece of the green space that would be taken away from the rest of us.
- presented that noise was not significant or relevant, however our neighbors can hear it from the Kittbuck bridge.
- Did not address that a new pickleball facility will open next summer 20 minutes away offering 16 indoor courts, 3 covered outdoor courts, a 3,850 square foot lounge with pro shop and cafe, and 184 parking spaces at $125 a month. which they could pay instead of the rest of the neighborhood.
Thank you for your time and Riverwalk residents/owners, one survey per household, please complete the survey and let our voices be heard. Thank you!
