The Issue
As a resident of Llynfi Valley, I am deeply concerned about the proposed plans by Last Energy UK Ltd, funded by American investors, to erect 4 Micro 20NMe nuclear power plants within a 0.9 mile radius of where I live. This is not a protest against nuclear power or other alternative energy sources, but rather, it is against the chosen location for this development.
The Llynfi Valley, statistically, already faces an uphill battle. Our infrastructure is struggling and property prices are unstable. The introduction of a nuclear power plant will only heighten these issues, potentially causing irreversible harm to an area that is already vulnerable.
Furthermore, the proposed development site, the former Llynfi Power Station, is not suitable for a nuclear power plant due to its close proximity to residential areas. Other locations would prove less detrimental to human habitation and would prevent the potential devastation that could befall our valley.
To top it off, the risks to our health cannot be undermined. Studies show that residing within close proximity of a nuclear facility can lead to a range of health implications, from increased levels of stress to heightened cancer risks.
Thus, we implore Last Energy UK Ltd and its investors to reconsider the location of these power plants for the sake of our valley, our homes, and our health. Sign the petition and help safeguard Llynfi Valley from the hazards posed by these nuclear power plants.
