For years, I have had the privilege to live near Roberts Bay, enjoying the serene beauty it offers. From my house, the liason to nature is just one glance away. However, a recent proposal threatens this tranquillity. The city wants to construct a kayak launch into Roberts Bay, risking the delicate balance of local ecosystem. Not only would this construction disturb the natural surroundings, it could potentially impact the many species that make the bay their home. As cited in "The Impact of Recreational Activities on Aquatic Ecosystems" (Harrison et al., 2018, Science Journal), human recreational activities can detrimentally disrupt the aquatic life, often instigating long-lasting harm. Any economic benefit from increased recreational tourism cannot justify the harm that will likely be done to the bay’s flora and fauna. The serene beauty of Roberts Bay should not be traded off for short-term economic gains. Protect our neighborhood, our views, and our local wildlife. Help stop the construction of this kayak launch.
