We deeply concerned about our community and the fragile environment around our daycare centers and schools. There's a proposal to construct a homeless shelter near our children's schools, where they are supposed to learn and flourish. The original plan for this location was a multi family building, but the developer changed their mind and decided to build a homeless shelter instead. This illegal action is wrong and should not be approved! Additionally, this raises safety concerns. Research has documented increased crime rates in areas surrounding homeless shelters (source: US Department of Justice), potentially endangering our children's safety. The risk that this proposal presents is immeasurable and could alter the positive environment our children are exposed to daily. For our children and for our community, we implore local authorities to reconsider this proposal and explore alternatives that can accommodate both societal needs—supporting the homeless and safeguarding our children’s environment.
