Stop the construction of a data center in Milan, Tennessee
The Issue
My name is Brent, and as a cancer survivor, I have lived through the harrowing challenges of battling this disease. Milan, Tennessee, my hometown, ranks alarmingly high in cancer rates, making any additional environmental risks unacceptable. That’s why, with great urgency, I am raising my voice against the proposed construction of a data center just one mile away from Milan Elementary and Milan Middle School, close to three churches and numerous residences.
The introduction of a data center in our community brings profound concerns. Data centers are notorious for consuming vast amounts of energy, often relying on non-renewable sources, which can lead to increased air pollution and contribute to climate change. More importantly, they emit a significant amount of electromagnetic radiation, the long-term effects of which are not fully understood. Do we truly want to gamble with the health of our children and fellow residents in a town that is already battling higher cancer rates?
Moreover, the presence of a data center could drastically alter the character of our quiet town. We pride ourselves on being a close-knit community where children play freely and residents enjoy clean air and serene surroundings. The industrial nature of a data center could lead to noise pollution, increased traffic, and heavy industrial activities that detract from the safety and tranquility of our neighborhood.
There are alternative locations for such facilities that don’t put vulnerable communities at further risk. We urge local authorities and the developers to consider these options and place the data center in an area that minimizes health and environmental impacts.
Let us protect our children and preserve the health and well-being of Milan. Our town cannot afford more health hazards that put our loved ones at risk. Join us in this fight to shield our home from unnecessary harm.
Sign this petition to prevent the construction of the data center near residential and educational areas in Milan, Tennessee. Together, we can champion the cause of health and safety for all our residents. #SOCDC
