Matt D started this petition to The College Board and

The College Board calls itself a Not-For-Profit Organization. However, I prefer to call it a ruthless corporation. The College Board administers the SAT, a standardized test frequently taken for College Admission. After a student takes the exam, The College Board scores the answer sheet by running it through a scanning device.
For far too long, students all across the United States have experienced issues with their score. In the score report, The College Board provides "test scores" of each section of the exam. This states the number of total questions, correct answers, and incorrect answers. Next to the number of incorrect answers, it states the number of "omitted answers." Students SHOULD have zero omitted answers unless they leave an answer BLANK. Countless students, including myself, DO NOT leave any questions on the answer sheet blank, yet practically every SAT at least one of my answers gets omitted— when a question is omitted it is marked as INCORRECT. This can easily make or break a student's score. Imagine, getting almost the entire exam correct and then getting one question omitted that should have been marked correct. This is a devastating reality for many students.

The College Board claims to use accurate machines to grade students' SATs. However, it is EXTREMELY clear that these machines are NOT accurate. The amount of money parents spend on their student's SAT preparation and the amount of time students dedicate to preparing for the stressful exam can be a great financial burden, time-consuming, and stressful. Even the SAT itself is not the cheapest exam. It is not fair that students have to spend more hours studying and more money to retake the SAT after an error in scoring. This is The College Board's fault and should not be blamed on the students. I bet the College Board uses faulty machines to score students' answers sheets to ensure more students receive lower scores and are left with no choice but to pay to take the SAT again. Again, The College Board calls itself a Non-For-Profit Organization. Sure...

To make things worse, The College Board provides an awful solution if the student is positive that he or she did not omit any answer. The College Board wants students to pay an extra $55 for Multiple Choice Hand Score Verification. This is outrageous. Likely, a student's score will not be changed. The College Board States, "If you didn’t mark your multiple-choice answers according
to our guidelines, we will not rescore your answer sheet,
and your score will not change. Examples of not following
the guidelines: using slashes, not completely or darkly
filling in the answer bubbles, or not marking the bubbles
for your student-produced responses in the Math Test." This means that if you have the correct answer bubbled and the machine didn't read it because it was not bubbled exactly how the scoring machine wanted it, the students' score will NOT be changed and they will NOT get their money back. Even if a student bubbled in the question completely it is very likely The College Board will use that as an excuse. Clearly, if the machine could not read the answer that was selected, but the student bubbled in the answer completely, The College Board can easily take advantage of a student and act like it was his or her fault by not giving the student back the points they deserve. It is a complete scam that The College Board uses to take advantage of peoples' money.

Therefore, I would like The College Board to...
**PURCHASE BETTER SCORING MACHINES**
**NOT CHARGE US MONEY TO CHECK FOR THEIR MISTAKES**
