Stop The Closure of Westbard Avenue

The Issue

Moco and Regency Centers is closing all access to the Westbard Shopping Center from River Road, making the already overburdened traffic light on Mass Ave the only access point. Help us send a message to Montgomery County Council and Regency Centers that the road should stay open!

This change is NOT because of construction needs, but because a small section of Ridgefield Road wants to live on a cul-de-sac. If this happens, everyone will have to detour to one intersection to get to their grocery store, shops, and home.

This change will create:

  • Traffic Nightmares
  • School Bus Routes Cut off
  • Small Businesses Crushed
  • Workers unable to get to work and could lose their jobs (no viable public transit)
  • Westwood Towers and other apartments blocked access (this is their neighborhood too!)
  • Safety Hazards (more headaches for EMS and police)

The Westbard Shopping Center has already experienced at least 1/4 decrease in traffic since the construction and traffic confusion started, and along with rent increases from Regency, has driven at least half of the businesses out and is threatening what remains. If this "create a cul-de-sac at the end of Westbard" goes through, it might make it impossible for the family owned businesses that are still struggling through to make it long enough to transition into the new shopping center once its completed

A few homes on a small stretch of road should not be able to overturn the needs of the greater community. Help us send a message to Montgomery County Council and Regency Centers that the roads should be open! If we get enough voices to speak up, we might stop this nonsense.
