What does Levelling up mean?? Well according to the Levelling Up Ministry it means, "Creating opportunities for everyone across the UK" but at RBKC we have seen the opposite. South of the borough the closing of provisions, vital to ALL community members such as WENAC or the local creche at Worlds End provides evidence to the council's indifference to the most vulnerable in the borough.
In RBKC the gap between the 'haves' and the 'don't haves' is ever wider with the most vulnerable left behind. It is up to each of us to hold local leadership accountable, after all it is 'we' that live by the decisions they make. This petition has collected over 800 signatures, most on hard copies and the community is angry! When Grenfell happened the leader of the council promised lessons would be learnt but the evidence is lacking.
Leadership still doesn't listen to the needs of the most vulnerable in the borough and too often dismiss community calls to be counted. whilst decisions are made in the interest of developers, corporations and the wealthy in the borough e.g. The Chelsea Theatre, where local residents are tolerated but not welcomed. once a community resource and a space where providers could deliver from, it is now too expensive to use for local interests.
Grenfell survivors had to embarrass the council before they listened and yet Leadership has failed to make the necessary culture shift needed for the benefit of ALL RBKC residents to have equal access to opportunities, development and flourish.
A CALL IS MADE TO GATHER AND HOLD LEADERSHIP ACCOUNTABLE on the 26th
