For countless residents in Campbellford, ON, Canada, the local outdoor pool holds a special place in our hearts. We cherish the simple joy of walking to our community outdoor pool, conveniently located next to the library. However, this cherished local spot is threatened. It has come to our attention that the existing council is planning to close our beloved outdoor pool.

The decision-making process has been behind closed doors, lacking the necessary community outreach and transparency. It's not only the closure of a recreational spot; it undermines our rights as local residents for not considering our opinions. It is apparent that our voices, concerns, and suggestions about our community assets have been sidelined, creating a democratic deficit.

The outdoor pool should not have to face closure. Instead, we believe the council should consider renovation. Renovating the pool would preserve the unique charm of Campbellford, contribute to the local economy, boost our community's morale and provide a recreational activity for all ages.

We stand firm in our belief that the current Campbellford outdoor pool should be refurbished and remain open for swimming to continue being a pillar of our community. In taking this stand, the residents of Trent Hills call the question: for the current council to prioritize community engagement, be transparent about their decisions, and consider our input valuable. 

The next election season starts in 2026, so let the new council decide; if the current councillors can’t find the funds in the budget, then let the pool sit empty until full disclosure has been done with a survey & referendum. Let the outdoor pool be a municipal election item on the ballot.
