This petition is to take action and stop the closure of Queen Elizabeth Leisure Centre in Wimborne. Losing such a key health facility in the ever growing community would be a devastating loss not only for the town which should be thriving as it grows, but for its devoted members, staff and many regular visitors who enjoy all the fitness facilities on offer. 

QELC plays an essential part in keeping our community - young and old - fit, active and improving mental health. Having this snatched away from us will have a detrimental effect in many ways. It will force many to travel further afield at a time when we should be considering our environmental footprint. For others, travel is not an option so not only will the closure lead to a decline in health within the community, short sightedly putting further strain on the NHS, but from a social aspect too as the centre plays such a major part in peoples lives, and is a real life line to many impacting on mental health too. QELC caters for many GP referrals and boasts the only accessible Hydrotherapy facility in the area. Furthermore, most of the 40 staff who are at the heart of the centre face redundancy in already uncertain times. 

Action needs to be taken immediately as the closure is planned for as soon as 1st April 2024, so please sign and share this petition in support of Queen Elizabeth Leisure Centre.
