Stop the Closure of GCISD Elementary Schools

Stop the Closure of GCISD Elementary Schools
The Issue
My children attend Dove Elementary, and we absolutely love the school and its dedicated staff. It is not just a place for my kids; it's a nurturing environment that plays a critical role in their education and overall development. Unfortunately, there is a possible plan underway by the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District (GCISD) to close several elementary schools, including ours, due to budget constraints. This decision will have a significant negative impact on our children and the community at large.
Keeping our elementary schools open is crucial for maintaining the quality and accessibility of education in Grapevine, TX. For many students, these schools are more than just structures—they are safe havens where they feel safe, supported, and inspired to learn every single day. The closure of these schools would mean not only the displacement of students but also the potential overcrowding of other local schools, leading to a decrease in personalized attention for each child.
Moreover, these closures would disrupt the lives of many families. Parents will have to rearrange their schedules and resources to accommodate new travel distances. This could disproportionately affect working families and those with limited means, imposing additional financial burdens and time constraints.
The community's pride and bond with these local schools cannot be ignored. They foster a community spirit where parents, teachers, and students work collaboratively towards common educational goals. Closing them undermines the cohesion and identity that we've built over the years as proud members of this community.
There are viable alternatives to closing these schools that GCISD should consider before making such a drastic decision. For instance, detailed evaluations of other district expenditures might reveal areas where cuts could be made without impacting educational facilities. Community fundraising efforts or partnerships with local businesses could also provide additional financial support to keep these well-loved schools operational.
The time to act is now. Let us raise our voices and advocate for the future of our children and our community. We call on GCISD to reconsider this decision and explore other avenues. Sign this petition to keep our elementary schools open and preserve the quality education that every child in Grapevine deserves.
