Unique model railway to remain open for the foreseeable future.
The Trustees of the Shuttlewood Clarke Foundation are pleased to announce that the model railway, built by its founder David Clarke, will remain open for the foreseeable future.
The charity had announced that the railway was to close from 19th December this year. However, over the past few weeks, constructive discussions have taken place between the volunteers and the Trustees, and alternative plans have now been submitted to meet the Foundation’s requirements.
These plans aim to enhance the entire area, including both the model railway and the charity shop donation point and goods-inwards area. The improvements will provide better access and create a more efficient and welcoming space for everyone.
Barry Martin, Chairman of the Board of Trustees said,
“It was always the Foundation’s intention to preserve the railway, if at all possible, and the fact that we plan to be able to keep it as part of the Foundation will be welcomed by all, especially given its unique place in the model railway world.”
Barry went on,
“We are grateful for the dedication and passion shown by everyone involved, which has been instrumental in reaching this positive outcome. The Trustees would like to extend their thanks to the volunteers for their ongoing commitment and flexibility during this period of transition.”
The Foundation and the Model Railway Volunteers say they welcome the support received from both the general public and model railway enthusiasts throughout the country in securing the home for the railway.
Alan Godber, speaking on behalf of the volunteers who operate and maintain the railway said,
“This is the best possible news and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to sit down with the trustees and discuss ways in which the railway could be saved and enhance the facilities at Ulverscroft Grange. The support received from the model railway community and the public has been heart-warming and we look forward to working with the trustees to ensure that David Clarke's pride and joy continues to thrive and maintain his legacy for all to enjoy.”
