STOP THE CLOSING OF MCSCS CHARTER SCHOOL

STOP THE CLOSING OF MCSCS CHARTER SCHOOL
The Issue
The Mathematics, Civics & Science Charter School of Philadelphia or (MSCSC) for short is a local Philadelphia Charter School founded in 1999 by Veronica Joyner, an educator who has established forty plus years as an educator and advocate for the importance of academics at the highest level. This school was one of the first of its kind in the kick-start of the charter school era and has stood the test of time for twenty-five years now. The institution houses grades 1st through 12th grade and has always welcomed students from all over the region because zip code or county did not matter. With currently 900 students in attendance and with a 100% graduation rate this school is obviously doing something right, right?
Up until this October 2023 there were GREAT high hopes in the future of MCSCS until the founder Ms. Veronica Joyner drafted a letter to all staff and students stating that "at the end of this 2023/2024 school year the doors of MCSCS will be closing for good". As you can imagine everyone involved including students, parents, staff, alumni & the community are very surprised and upset that this decision was made so abruptly and without warning, even the Philadelphia school board was caught off guard and there're located directly across the street from MCSCS.
Her reason behind this decision is stated that she is wanting to finally retire from her role as an educator and that no one would be able to fill her shoes/role to perform at the level she has for so long by working seven days a week plus twelve-hour days. In addition, she was only given a one-year renewal contract by the school board instead of five years due to some curriculum concerns.
With all that being said I Myke Robb a former student from the second graduating class of 2004 and on behalf of all my former classmates, friends, other alumni's and the community are asking for your help and support to start this good fight and create some good trouble to help us keep the doors open to MCSCS open. This institution that if you asked many people whether they loved or hated attending there has saved many lives in many ways. They have gained a new outlook on their educational future, they have gained a new outlook on life and built great new relationships and a legacy for their own kids all by attending this school.
By signing this petition this can be the start of something amazing for the future of MCSCS and if you have never been a part of a movement or protested anything before in your life, let this be the start of that something.
I thank you all for your time and support in reading this petition and let's hope that this can change Ms. Joyner's mind in some way, and she can become more open minded with a better understanding solution.
