Who is impacted?
This law does not only target abusers — it targets all of us. Every private conversation with a loved one, every photo shared with family, every message to a doctor, lawyer, or journalist would be opened to suspicion. By forcing providers to scan our most intimate messages, the EU is turning ordinary people into suspects by default. It means that regardless of who you are — a parent sending baby pictures, a teenager chatting with friends, or a patient texting a doctor — your private life could be flagged, stored, and investigated.
What is at stake?
Nothing less than the right to live without constant surveillance. If Chat Control passes, your phone will no longer be yours — it will become an investigator in your pocket. Encryption, the very shield that protects us from hackers, stalkers, and authoritarian regimes, will be broken. The presumption of innocence, a cornerstone of democracy, will be replaced by suspicion of everyone. Silence today means accepting a future where Europe normalizes mass surveillance and no longer guarantees truly private communication.
Why is now the time to act?
We must act now, before our digital freedoms are dismantled. Once the door to mass scanning is opened, it cannot easily be closed — the damage will be permanent. Protecting children is vital, but this proposal risks harming them too by destroying the safe spaces their families, teachers, and doctors rely on for trusted communication. We cannot trade away the rights of an entire society under the illusion of safety. Europe must stand for freedom, security, and human dignity — not a future where every citizen is monitored as a suspect.
What can you do?

- 14th of October 2025: European Interior Ministers vote on adopting Chat Control 2.0.

What should be done instead?
If you really want to help children and fight against child abuse, you don't need to come up with ineffective and totalitarian technical measures:
- Provide specialised police units with more resources, including psychological support, to reduce the harm of being exposed to such crimes.
- Educate children to speak up and recognise abusive situations: no one should touch their private parts, and no one should ask them to touch somebody else’s private parts.
