Stop the charter elementary school inside our high school

Stop the charter elementary school inside our high school
The Issue
As a dedicated teacher at Westland Hialeah Senior, I am deeply concerned about the recent proposal to open a charter elementary school within our high school premises. Our school, located in Hialeah, Florida, provides a unique learning environment tailored to prepare our students for collegiate success and their future careers. Unfortunately, if this proposal goes through, it could severely disrupt the educational opportunities we have tirelessly worked to cultivate.
Opening an elementary school within the same building will restrict space and resources that are already at a premium. Our students require specific facilities — science labs, art studios, and quiet study areas — that will be compromised if a charter elementary is imposed upon us. Furthermore, noise and traffic from younger children could detract from the focused, scholarly atmosphere we've established.
Statistics show overcrowding negatively impacts students’ ability to learn. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, high school students perform better when they have access to particular resources. By inserting an elementary school, a valuable portion of these resources and the learning atmosphere can be jeopardized, ultimately hindering student performance and growth.
Moreover, mingling high school and elementary school students raises serious safety and security concerns. These age groups have very different needs and requirements, and observing appropriate boundaries is crucial. The introduction of younger children can inadvertently disrupt high schoolers’ academic focus and detract from their readiness for post-secondary education.
We firmly believe there are more suitable locations for new educational institutions that wouldn't risk compromising the high school students' learning experience. Our priority should be enhancing the quality of education for existing students and preserving their right to a focused educational environment.
Please join us in ensuring that the charter elementary school is not established in the high school building. It is vital to protect our students’ education, safety, and future. Sign this petition to voice your support for our high school community's needs and to prevent the misguided installation of a charter elementary school within our learning environment.
