Stop the cemetery and funeral home construction in our residential neighborhood

Stop the cemetery and funeral home construction in our residential neighborhood
The Issue
UPDATE: BOARD MEETING 7:00, MAY 2nd, HOMER GLEN’S VILLAGE HALL
ATTENTION
To the Residents of Rossmoor Estates Subdivision, New Lenox Township. Any and all residents on Blodgett, Parker and Meader Road.
NOTICE
A cemetery in Homer Township is being built immediately North of our subdivision. See “Muslim Ummah Cemetery” Homer Township Website for more project plan information.
QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS.
1. Residents were/are unaware of project details of a cemetery until a bulldozer and silt fence was erected to the job site. In good faith by the owners why weren’t any of the neighbors told about the planned construction?
2. Was Homer Township Administration or Will County Board aware of this project?
3. Was any public hearing held of signage posted at the site?
4. Was there a Will County board/land use review and approval provided? Is there a construction permit issued?
5. Were any of these matters considered:
a. Public welfare in general.
b. How it will Adversely affect civil enterprise.
c. How the prosperity of the community will be effected.
d. The character of the community in general.
6. Project questions for the owner:
a. What is the water drainage plan? Do they have any perimeter containment or berms part of the plan to prevent runoff of water to adjacent properties?
b. Do they have a stormwater management plan created?
c. What will be the traffic and parking plan? Are road improvements on Meader or Blodgett part of the construction plan?
d. Will the cemetery be fenced in? What size and type of fence? Do they have plans to build a wall? How about a concrete wall?
e. What will operating hours be? Will noise and lighting be a concern to the nighbors?
f. Who ensures long term maintenance of property from deteriorating?
We want answers!
1. Was there a zoning changed to support the project? Were any zoning laws effected?
2. Was an environmental impact study conducted by IEPA?
3. There will be 24,000 souls buried in a 40 acre site. Are there any state cemetery regulations on burials without a casket or container?
4. What impact does body decomposition do to the surrounding fields, ponds, aquifer and runoff?
5. What health concerns should our residents have about our water supply? Will this effect us more being all well and septic homes?
6. We believe our public health is at stake, are there any health studies performed or information to provide the residents?
7. Will any wetlands be impacted by this project?
8. Were all federal, state and county rules and regulations followed leading to county building permit approval and issuance?
