STOP the Cell Phone Ban in Indiana Schools

The Issue

This petition is for:

Governor of Indiana: Eric J. Holcomb

As a high school student in Indiana, I feel that cell phones are a crucial tool for safety and communication. In today's world, we rely on our phones for everything from staying in touch with our parents to accessing important information. If we don't have cell phones at school, how can we reach out for help in case of an emergency? How can we escape from a potentially harmful situation? It is essential that students have access to their cell phones at all times to ensure their safety and well-being.

As young students, we are the future leaders of tomorrow. Our voices matter, and we deserve to be heard.

Without access to cell phones in school, students are left vulnerable in emergency situations. In case of an injury, bullying, or harassment, students need to be able to contact authorities or their parents immediately. By implementing a ban on cell phones, schools are putting students at risk and limiting their ability to seek help when needed.

Cell phones are not just a distraction; they are a lifeline for many students. In today's fast-paced world, communication is key, and cell phones provide students with the ability to stay connected with their peers and loved ones. Additionally, cell phones can be used as a valuable educational tool, allowing students to access information, complete assignments, and collaborate with their classmates. Banning cell phones in schools hinders students' ability to learn and communicate effectively.

Many students use their cell phones as a means of escape from the stress and pressure of school life. In a world where social media and messaging apps dominate our lives, students often turn to their phones as a way to connect with friends, relax, and unwind. If the ban on cell phones is not lifted, how will students cope with the demands of school without a means of escape?

Allowing students to have their phones on their person during school hours can actually enhance their learning experience. With access to educational apps, research tools, and online resources, students can use their phones to supplement their learning and stay connected with the outside world. Furthermore, in case of emergencies, having a cell phone readily available can provide students with a sense of security and peace of mind.

While it is important to maintain a balance between technology use and academic focus, completely banning cell phones from schools may not be the most practical solution. Instead, schools should consider allowing students to use their phones during designated times, such as passing between classes or at lunch. This way, students can have a break from their studies without disrupting the learning environment.

By regulating the use of cell phones in schools, educators can teach students about responsible technology use and digital citizenship. Rather than seeing cell phones as a distraction, schools can incorporate them as tools for learning and communication. Nowadays, cell phones are part of everyday life, and it is important for students to learn how to use them responsibly.

Students deserve the right to have access to their phones. Sign this petition to STOP the cell phone ban in Indiana schools and support our students' well-being!
