Stop the cancellation of Norwich & Norfolk local elections

Stop the cancellation of Norwich & Norfolk local elections
The Issue
The Labour Party-run Norwich City Council and Labour government, led by Keir Starmer, are colluding to take away your democratic voice this May.
Local council elections where you have the chance to vote for your local councillors and show how you are feeling about the performance of the Labour Party in the council and in government, were due to take place on May 7th.
This is now going to be taken away, as the Labour-run council writes to the government to request that local elections be postponed in Norwich, a move which may also see county council elections across all of Norfolk postponed as well, helping to keep the Conservative-run administration at the county council in power.
The council will blame capacity issues as part of the governments reorganisation, but the facts are that the council has a year-round elections team of staff, and funding for scheduled local elections are budgeted in every year.
The Labour government will blame Norwich City Council and Norfolk County Council for the delays, but cancelling elections is a decision that comes from government.
The truth? Both Keir Starmer and your local Labour councillors are scared of losing Norwich City Council in May, as the Green Party rise above them in national polls and with polls consistently projecting a Green MP for Norwich South at the next general election.
We are calling for the elections to go ahead, for the council not to apply for cancellation and for the Labour government to reject any application for cancellation.
The people of Norwich and Norfolk deserve a voice. Politicians need democratic legitimacy, and the Labour Party needs to be sent a strong message. Sign the petition now, share with family & friends and write to your local Labour councillors to demand that local elections go ahead on May 7th!
