A worldwide demand to all current and past serviing members of the Canadian government STOP the CFIA from slaughtering almost 400 innocent ostriches.

This week, the Canadian Food Inspecrion Agency is preparing to cull nearly 400 healthy ostriches.  Silence or inaction on your part is an abdication of your responsibility to your constituents and, frankly, to the nation as a whole.

Key concerns deserve your immediate attention:

 • The CFIA is exercising sweeping authority to cull animals based solely on suspicion, without substantive oversight or transparent review processes.

 • Prior to the CFIA’s intervention, H5N1 antibodies were documented in the ostrich eggs. This is significant and warrants further evaluation.

 • Two years ago, a qualified veterinarian assessed these birds and diagnosed pseudomonas—a common, non-reportable, treatable bacterial infection, not a public health threat.

 • The CFIA prohibits comprehensive diagnostic testing on these birds, threatening severe legal and financial penalties for independent verification. Such measures undermine confidence in regulatory transparency and accountability.

 • The ostrich farm had an existing contract with a Winnipeg laboratory to research the potential application of these antibodies in protecting both humans and animals. The laboratory confirmed the utility of these antibodies against COVID-19 variants.

 • Shortly after these findings, the laboratory was acquired, the research contract was terminated, and a non-disclosure agreement was enforced. During this time, the government issued a $13 billion grant to the new lab owners.

 • In December 2024, both Canada and the US lifted poultry import restrictions from France following successful avian flu vaccination outcomes in French poultry.

 • The US government has formally requested Canada and the CFIA to halt the cull and instead collaborate with US agencies to study the unique antibody properties of these ostriches.

 • Multiple expert witnesses have testified in support of Universal Ostrich Farm, emphasizing the scientific and economic potential of these birds.

 • Legal proceedings have been restricted to evidence and actions taken by the CFIA as of December 2024, when the cull order was issued just 41 minutes after limited PCR testing on two deceased juveniles not housed with the main flock—birds that had already demonstrated H5N1 antibodies.

 • The ostriches in question are healthy, productive, and possess naturally derived antibodies that may be of significant benefit to both public health and the economy.

On behalf of Canadians, we strongly urge you to intervene and halt the imminent cull of these ostriches. We request that the farm owners be permitted to engage an independent third-party laboratory to conduct comprehensive testing of the birds’ health status. If discrepancies arise between CFIA findings and independent results, a mutually agreed-upon authority should resolve the matter.

Canadians and the world, also demand a thorough investigation of the CFIA’s current mass culling policies and a comprehensive overhaul to eliminate unchecked authority. The CFIA should not be permitted to act as both the sole decision-maker and the sole source of justification for such impactful actions.

It is your duty to advocate for evidence-based, transparent decision-making that protects both public and economic interests. We demand a thorough investigation into CFIA’s policies on animal culling. The days of rubber-stamping mass kills with no accountability have to end.
