"Stop the burning of the Holy Quran: Stand against religious hate & intolerance"
The Issue
We, the undersigned, condemn in the strongest possible terms the despicable act of burning the Holy Quran in Sweden on 28th June 2023. This outrageous action is an affront to the Muslim community and an attack on religious freedom and tolerance. Such actions do not belong in a civilized society and undermine the values that we cherish and seek to cultivate.
The Holy Quran is a sacred text of Islam and its desecration is an insult to the faith of over 1.6 billion Muslims worldwide. Burning it is a deliberate act of provocation and bigotry, designed to hurt and offend peaceful and law-abiding citizens. It also contributes to a toxic and divisive atmosphere and risks inflaming tensions and conflicts between different communities.
We urge the United nations and European Union and law enforcement authorities to take strong action against the perpetrators of this heinous act and bring them to justice. We also call on all religious leaders, community organizations, and civil society groups to stand up against such acts of hate and intolerance and work towards building bridges of understanding and respect between different faiths and cultures.
In conclusion, we call for a world where religious diversity is respected, where all faiths are valued, and where the sanctity of holy scriptures is upheld. We pledge to stand united against all forms of bigotry and hate, and to work towards a better world where justice, compassion and peace prevail.
