In St. Joseph, Missouri, we’re facing an unwelcome threat in the form of a data center that could potentially alter the very essence of our environment and community. Many residents, including myself, are worried about the implications of this project on our environment, biodiversity, and resources.  This is where we live, work, and raise our families.

The environmental impact of data centers is notorious for consuming large amounts of energy and water. According to research, a single such center can use an extremely high amount of water per day, contributing significantly to local water scarcity. The St. Joseph area, rich in natural resources and unique biodiversity, could suffer irreversible damage.

Moreover, the noise pollution generated from the constant operation of generators and cooling systems will disrupt wildlife and our community. Not to mention, there’s often little consideration for wildlife and their habitats, potentially displacing local flora and fauna.

Economically, while such projects often promise jobs and increased revenue, they seldom benefit local workers or businesses directly. Many of the high-skilled positions are filled by external hires, and the environmental degradation can deter other potential investors .

As residents of St. Joseph and Buchanan County, we value our community's wellbeing over the interests of large corporations. We deserve a say in the development projects that occur in our area.  

We propose that the city consider greener, more community-focused alternatives that won't compromise our environment or quality of life.
