BSA just maimed the signature event of most packs that host campouts:

• It added "single" into its rules on Cub Scout camping (compare to the August 2022 version, which lacks "single"). This one word bans all pack-organized campouts that are more than one night!
• Of packs that organize campouts, 75% plan for more than one night!

This sweeping change was secret. BSA neither consulted the community in advance nor prepared the community for it.

We ask for BSA to rescind this ban and endorse multi-night, pack-organized campouts. We also insist that sweeping changes have community involvement and advance partnership.

My own pack has hosted two- and three-night campouts. Cub Scouts of all ages loved them. They were positive, lifetime-memory events. It would be devastating for the pack to lose these signature events.

Cub Scouting without camping is like a soccer player who attends practices but never goes to a game.

Even if you're in a pack with a different tradition or not in Cub Scouts please consider signing. That will make you a friend, showing support of packs that thrive with multi-night campouts. Maybe this change opens an opportunity for your pack?
