The Issue

Ghadira Bay in Mellieha is where countless Maltese families, including mine, have cherished memories of sunny days spent swimming and enjoying the natural beauty of one of Malta’s most beloved coastal areas. This turquoise bay, with its pristine waters and golden sands, is not just a swimming spot; it is a treasured part of Malta’s natural heritage, a place where the community gathers and memories are made.

Recent proposals to develop a boat marina in Ghadira threaten to alter this cherished landscape forever. Such a development would not only disrupt the peaceful environment but could also pose significant environmental threats, including increased pollution and damage to marine life due to construction and increased boat traffic. According to environmental studies, marinas often lead to a decline in water quality and disturb local aquatic ecosystems, vital for maintaining biodiversity.

Malta's tourism and local quality of life rely heavily on the natural beauty of our beaches and the health of our marine ecosystems. Allowing a boat marina to replace one of our most beautiful swimming bays is a step towards environmental degradation and the loss of our natural treasures. Ghadira Bay must be preserved for future generations of Maltese families to enjoy.

We urge the Prime Minister of Malta Robert Abela, to reconsider this project. Our natural environment is not a disposable commodity. By acting now, we can ensure that Ghadira Bay remains a safe haven for swimmers and a beautiful sight to behold, free from the industrial intrusion of a boat marina.

Sign this petition to voice your support for protecting Ghadira Bay and to urge decision-makers to protect our valued natural spaces from such developments. Together, we can make a difference.
