STOP THE BLVD: Petition Valencia County Commissioners to Find Alternative Route
The Issue
Our community is facing an urgent issue that threatens our quality of life and the safety of our environment. Our neighnborhood in Los Lunas, NM is essentially surrounded on all four sides with busy thoroughfares. Inside this "circle" we have farmland, livestock, families, beautiful fields supporting wildlife and our homes. County Commissioners have proposed a route for a new road that significantly impacts our neighborhood by introducing heavy traffic, noise pollution, and safety risks. The route in question is planned to cut directly through our residential area (on either Otero Rd. or Orona Rd.), disrupting our daily lives and endangering our children, pets, and the overall tranquility of our community.
We understand the need for infrastructure development, but it is imperative to seek a solution that considers the well-being of the residents. The proposed route not only compromises safety and peace but also depreciates property values and causes environmental harm by destroying farm land that is vital to our way of life. We believe there are more viable options that should be explored.
The best alternative is to utilize N. El Cerro Loop. With long overdue improvements, this route can handle the traffic flow without imposing additional burdens on our residential neighborhood. By doing so, we can preserve the safety and serenity of our community while still achieving the desired infrastructural improvements.
We call upon the County Commissioners to conduct a thorough analysis of existing routes that can serve as potential alternatives. This should include traffic impact studies, environmental assessments, and consultations with community stakeholders. The goal must be to identify a route that minimally disrupts residential areas while effectively accommodating the necessary traffic demands.
Our neighborhood deserves thoughtful planning and consideration. We urge you to help us protect our community by signing this petition. Let's work together to ensure responsible development that respects our homes and environment.
