Stop the Bloomsburg Mayor from euthanizing geese at town park

Stop the Bloomsburg Mayor from euthanizing geese at town park
The Issue
An article recently came out about the Bloomsburg mayor making the decision to euthanize geese because they make a ‘mess’. The Bloomsburg town park has been a home to 40 Canadian geese in the area. Since the birds defecate in the park, they mayor has made the decision to euthanize a group of geese and donate the meat to a food bank. The rest of the geese will be trapped and relocated. The problem is, is that these birds are just living in their home and there are other solutions to this issue. The plan will also backfire, as long as the area stays attractive and accessible to its resources geese and other species will come back. There are other solutions that doesn’t result in the cruelty of killing animals. One solution is having short fencing or barriers and habitat modifications such as letting surrounding vegetation flourish. Another solution is using grape flavored spray on grass and using flashing lights on nearby lakes and ponds. Both of these solutions are effective at reducing the geese population. Also USDA- APHIS Wildlife services’ kill- happy approach fail to mitigate animal suffering and has a lack of transparency.
