This iconic landmark is home to the planet's largest Northern Gannet colony, and its natural beauty prompted Sir David Attenborough to declare it "one of the twelve wildlife wonders of the world." Yet, this precious haven for seabirds including puffins, kittiwakes, guillemots, razorbills, and gannets is under threat from a new threat: the proposed Berwick Bank offshore wind farm, set to become the world's largest of its kind.

The Berwick Bank development threatens to irreparably harm Scotland's diverse marine ecosystem. This project aims to place its massive infrastructure right in the heart of the primary feeding grounds for these already endangered seabirds. According to the developer's own assessments, thousands of seabirds could perish as a result of the construction and operation of this wind farm.

Our seabirds are already facing overwhelming challenges. Puffins, kittiwakes, and others are experiencing sharp declines due to disease outbreaks and diminishing food supplies. In such a precarious situation, how can we justify further endangering them for the sake of green energy?

While renewable energy projects are imperative for combating climate change, they must be executed without sacrificing our critical wildlife habitats. Scotland's natural heritage cannot be treated as collateral damage.

There are alternative locations where the creation of renewable energy sources can be pursued without putting endangered species at risk. We must urge the developers to reconsider and relocate the Berwick Bank wind farm project to less ecologically sensitive areas, where it can still contribute to green energy goals without threatening vital wildlife populations.
