Why this petition matters

I am looking for assistance to put a halt on Town of Beausejour dumping chemicals, salt and water backwash in Brokenhead river from the town's new water treatment plant. They have been on a marathon to build this pipeline throughout this summer.

There was no chemical test done for this process. They did not take into account the algae, microbiome or insects. The report that was submitted by the town of Beausejour does not reflect reality. There are three illegal dams on the river that will hold those chemicals and settle them on the bottom. This will also affect our wells. It will be lethal to the ecosystem. There are endangered snapping turtles and eels in the river, as well the migratory birds depend on the river. A lot of people are using the water for their household and our children swim and play in the river. The province has issued a license without taking any of the above information into account. This was never informed to the Brokenhead first nation, who depend on the river first hand. The Provincial Conservative  government does not care about our concerns regarding the backwash polluting the water. We reached out to our MLA Wayne Ewasko who told us 'It's not that bad.' We wrote to the EAP regarding the water being contaminated; he dismissed all requests and rejected our appeal.  Our wells will be dried out if the town takes all the water from the aquifer and wells will also be contaminated. Provincial PC government has been issuing licenses to polluters and big businesses leaving us in the dark losing our basic right to clean water.

Please help us halt this process asap. We were not informed about the pipeline that is being built. This will cause irreversible and permanent damage to the river. The Brokenhead Ojibway First Nation has not been consulted on this decision. This is a violation of their treaty rights. There is a huge area of Bentonite spill that is washing into the river right now from the rain and an initial lab test shows there is a highly toxic contaminant called Polyacrilamide is present at a considerable level. RM of Brokenhead was notified about this process but these corrupted politicians have been bought and sold by polluters and Big Ag. They only care about making rich people richer. We have to fight and protect Brokenhead river. Please join me on this incrediable journey and show your support by signing and sharing my petition. More updates will be added in future. Please email me at savebrokenheadriver@gmail.com  if you want to find out about our legal process. Thank you.
