Dear Supporter
I still have not heard back from the BBC about their Equality Impact Assessments since meeting with them.
I am contacting you with an action you can take to support our campaign.
Recently Ofcom, the broadcasting regulators, wrote to the BBC Director of Policy, Claire Sumner, raising concerns about their changes to local radio.
In the letter they say: "the BBC must continue to deliver on its obligation to serve all audiences, including local audiences, across the UK with
distinctive, high-quality UK content. The BBC must also continue to offer a wide range of content for audiences who still only use live broadcast TV and radio services."
Ofcom also criticised the lack of detail and clarity in the BBC's announcements and raised concerns about shared programming as we have in this campaign.
You can read the full letter here.
Whilst Ofcom raised concerns about equality impacts on age they didn't mention ethnicity, race or religion impacts in their letter. This is where you come in.
You can raise your complaint with Ofcom about the impacts on Black and Asian audiences and workers.
- You can make a complaint via this link
- Tweet @ofcom asking them to investigate BBC Black and Asian radio cuts
- Message them on Instagram @ofcom.org.uk
- Message them on facebook - Ofcom is their page name.
Suggested wording for social media:
"Dear Ofcom, I have signed this petition regarding cuts to BBC African, Caribbean and Asian radio shows and would like Ofcom to investigate my concerns."
Please use our hashtag #StopBBCBlackAsianradiocuts and add a link to this petition if you are contacting them on social media.
Interestingly the BBC's plans to axe BBC singers was quickly stopped following public outcry recently:
We send our solidarity to BBC Singers and all who took action.
Many thanks for your support.
Wishing you a good rest of the weekend.
