Dear Supporter
Following my update last week about workers in BBC local radio having to reapply for their own jobs and the planned watering down and reduction in services by the BBC, I received breaking news this afternoon that members of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) have voted overwhelmingly to take industrial action over local radio cuts.
They will take strike action on Budget Day, 15th March alongside a number of other trade unions. This will be followed by a work to rule and further strike days.
83% of members working in local radio voted yes to strike action and the unionhas urged the BBC to take notice of the syrength of feeling, engage in a meaningful way and get back around the negotiating table.
You can read more here.
I am sure you will wish to join me in congratulating NUJ members and showing your solidarity for their strike action. You can do thus by joining picket lines at the BBC on the day and sending messages of solidarity to the NUJ.
You can tweet NUJ with messages of solidarity @nujofficial
They are using the hashtag #keepBBClocalradiolocal which you can use alongside our hashtag for this campaign: #StopBBCBlackAsianRadioCuts
Best Regards and Solidarity with NUJ
