The Issue

I am making this petition because the Bayshore to Border Bikelane Project is the wrong idea for San Ysidro and Nestor. I am calling for the immediate pause of this project and revisting its long term viability. SANDAG gave a grant to the cities of Imperial Beach and San Diego to implement this project. I am calling on NORA VARGAS of SANDAG, the City of San Diego and VIVIAN MORENO of District 8 to come back to the community to get a better path for this project.

The Bayshore Border project is taking away good and heavily used roads to accomodate protected bike lanes. These bike lanes are creating a traffic nightmare along 2 critical intersections where Beyer Blvd crosses Iris Ave and Dairy Mart Rd. I am against bike lanes that adversly affect the residents that depend on these roads for parking. Beyer Blvd and Oro Vista Rd accomodate hundreds of cars! The Bayshore Bikeway was intended for recreational cyclists and enthusiasts. The majority of San Ysidro and Nestor residents will NOT use this bikeway nor will it benefit them in anyway. These are working communities that mainly use their cars to get to work. Imagine the added stress for hundreds of families that now have to find parking far from their homes. That's time in their lives they will never get back. That means they have to wake up earlier to get to work and delay them getting home. These people should not have to justify why they want to park in front of their homes.

Beyer Blvd is the main road that traverses San Ysidro. It was big enough for parking, for traffic, buses and bikes. There are 2 new apartment complexes being built on either end of Beyer that will only make traffic and pollution worse in an area already suffering from the HIGHEST TRAFFIC and POLLUTION because the Border. These bikes lanes will also go through West and East Park Ave. These were already very NARROW lanes and will take away parking for visitors to the 2 parks, playground, tennis courts, a senior center and a teen center. The sad thing about this whole project is that cyclists use a different path altogehter.

13th St in Imperial Beach has a completly different set up that allows for traffic and parking. In my opinion its the best compromise. Its unfair that San Ysidro is losing so much.

Supporters of the Border Bikeway are not living in these areas!!! Although the community was consulted not everyone was aware of these meetings and are only now finding out because of the contruction! If you agree let your voice be heard or forever remain silent while others decide the fate of your community! Please join me in calling to stop this project!

Carlos CordovaPetition StarterI have become increasingly aware of issues surrouding my community and myself. I want to make a difference for everyone to enjoy.
