With the determination of David of the myth of David and Goliath, Brumby Advocates are fighting for the lives of the last surviving Brumbies in Kosciuszko National Park. Brumbies are at risk of total wipe out.
The Non Government Organisation, well funded, Reclaim Kosci, a branch of Invasive Species Council, have had the removal of all Brumbies from the Park in their sights, for some time.
Reclaim Kosci claim the iconic Australian wild horse “doesn’t belong” and want all Brumbies ground and aerially shot. Many Brumbies in the Park have already been subjected to this barbaric aerial shooting, similar to the shootings that took place in Guy Fawkes in 2000 and why aerial shooting was banned in New South Wales for 20 years.
Then along comes Invasive Species Council.
Brumby Advocates argue, there is no substantive evidence that proves removing Brumbies will save any threatened or endangered species. There has never been a scientific impact statement completed in the 200 years Brumbies have lived in all areas of the Australian Alpine Park.
Advocates are lobbying Members of Parliament to keep the Legislation in place that recognised the heritage value of Brumbies, by Members of Parliament of NSW, in 2018.
Aerial shooting is barbaric, it is cruel and unnecessary. National Parks and Wildlife Services Standard Operating Procedures require shooting foals first, with up to 15 bullets after they have been run to ground. Mares in foal often take gut shots and die a long drawn out death, and brave stallions fight to save their mobs from helicopters before falling and being filled with bullets.
In a civilised society this is unacceptable and barbaric.
An ePetition seeking 20,000 public signatures to keep the Legislation that protects our Heritage Brumbies, is circulating. to stop any further cruel aerial shooting, in lieu of non lethal management, as required by the Legislation, is available to sign.
