Stop the ban on the UBA Basketball League in India
This petition had 412 supporters
The UBA Pro Basketball League is the first men's professional basketball tournament in India. It was founded in 2015 and promotes basketball through a legitimate channel.
Last weekend, 122 of India's finest basketball players, coaches, referees, and support staff were banned from taking part in any official national or international basketball events. This is a huge blow towards promoting basketball in India.
The UBA has no government support and raises money independently since basketball is not a sport that the government recognizes as a national sport.
The ban is being pushed by the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) since it has split into two committees. The two committees want control of the UBA. The result is that they are now banning professional basketball in India.
Millions of youth across the country are starting to play basketball, and they watch and follow the UBA. By banning the UBA, we are sending a message to the rest of the world that India does not care about basketball. Let's change that.
