Currently under the Landscape South Australia Act 2019, feral deer are declared for control. Eradication of all deer species within South Australia is the governments desired goal. 

It has been proven in the past, what is required to eradicate an introduced species and it has never been achieved on mainland Australia. Given the current situation within South Australia this goal is unachievable. 

Left unmanaged wild deer populations can have a negative impact on the landscape and farming practices. Well managed it has been proven globally that wild deer species can have a positive economic impact. Hunting alone creates hundreds of millions of dollars in neighbouring states in Australia and has been proven by economic studies.

The governments policy’s on eradication must be reconsidered. Deer management is a more practical and achievable path moving forward. Access to government controlled land by hunters should be mirrored like other states within Australia.

Stop the waste of protein through the aerial culling programs and make the animals be utilised. Stop the waste of valuable funding trying to achieve an unachievable goal, harness deer and huntings potential and all will benefit.
